East Los Angeles College is seeking applicants for one tenure-track Animation Instructor position in the Art Department. This position commence in the 2013-2014 academic year.

East Los Angeles College, with an enrollment of approximately 28,000, is the largest of the nine colleges in the Los Angeles Community College District, and is located in the Los Angeles suburb of Monterey Park, in the San Gabriel Valley. ELAC is dedicated to providing the highest quality of transfer and workforce education courses, along with superior adult education, basic skills, and community service programs. We serve a culturally diverse community in a dynamic urban setting with the purpose of supporting students in achieving associate of arts degrees, general education, skill/certificates, and/or personal development. The college seeks to fulfill the potential of each student through innovative teaching methods, the latest in educational technology, and committed support services.
Desired Qualifications:
? Recent and successful experience teaching college-level traditional animation courses from layout to storyboarding.
? Recent and successful experience teaching college-level 3D animation courses from modeling to animation.
? Recent and successful experience teaching college-level post production courses.
? A minimum of (3) years working in a production capacity in the animation or game design industries.
? Demonstrate a wide range of technical capabilities, strong drawing skills and mastery of one or more areas of visual development, concept art/storyboarding, 2D animation software (Flash), 3D animation software (Maya) and post-production software (Final Cut).
? Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
? Interest in and willingness to participate in college and department committees.
? Credits in production projects beyond teaching.
? Knowledge of assessment of student learning (e.g., Student Learning Outcomes).
? Proficiency with use of tools, equipment and techniques used in the subject related areas
? Grant writing experience in a community college environment

Duties and Responsibilities:
? Teach 15 hours a week per semester and hold regular office hours. Opportunities may exist for summer and winter intersession teaching. The probationary instructor will teach a variety of animation and related courses from background/layout to 3D animation to Audio/Video post-production. Assignments may include evening and/or weekend courses and locations other than the main campus.
? Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methods and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
? Participate in other activities required by the College or the District.
? Participate in curriculum and Student Learning Outcomes development.
? Develop and manage student internship program in animation discipline.
? Develop and manage student recruitment and program promotion for the animation discipline.
? Serve on College committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program, and participate in appropriate professional development activities.
? Perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities, College policies, division policies, and department policies.
? Maintain scheduled office and campus hours, and participate in department/division meetings and committees;
? Ability to function and collaborate in a collegial team setting.

Please note that the Art Department may assign any combination of day, evening, or weekend classes as part of the regular-contract teaching load on the main campus and/or at our off site campuses. Appointments are contingent upon Board approval.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in animation, fine arts, art OR any bachelor’s degree and two years of animation industry experience, OR any associate degree and six years of animation industry experience.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Under the 2005-2008 AFT Agreement, the salaries for entry-level positions, which include long-term substitutes, range from $47,600 to $74,110. The Los Angeles Community College District provides fringe benefits including a choice of dental and medical plan, voluntary life insurance, income protection insurance and vision care. Optional teaching assignments may include winter and summer intersessions.
EVALUATION PROCEDURES:
1. A college selection committee will review all completed and approved applications received. The committee screening will involve an evaluation of the candidate’s qualifications in the areas of training, experience as determined from the application package and recommendations from referents.
2. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview following the committee screening.
3. Based upon the committee recommendation, finalists will interview with the president and vice president, who will make the final selection.
